Damon Braces

Damon Braces Logo

Damon braces are fixed braces that use a combination of memory wires and self-ligating brackets to quickly move the teeth into the desired position. The brackets are smaller and flatter than conventional fixed braces which makes them more comfortable and since they’re self-ligating you won’t need to visit us so frequently! Damon braces can be used to treat a number of orthodontic problems including misaligned bites, gaps between teeth, overcrowding and crossbites.

The Benefits:

  • Can treat the most complex cases – Including overbites, under-bites, open bites, overcrowded teeth, cross-bites and gaps between teeth
  • Fixed – Teeth are constantly being straightened
  • Comfortable – Damon is widely considered the most comfortable type of fixed brace
  • No Extractions or Tooth Reshaping – Damon braces often do not require these methods of creating space
  • Fast results – As they’re fixed, your teeth are constantly being aligned
  • Self-ligating – no need for elastics because the wire is locked inside the bracket which speeds up the treatment
  • Mid Range cost - not as expensive as full mouth lingual braces
  • Predictable – Using a combination of traditional fixed braces with clear brackets utilises some of the best orthodontic products and techniques

The Disadvantages:

  • Noticable – People will be able to tell you’re wearing a brace
  • Minor discomfort – Fixed braces can take a little getting used to
  • More time needed to clean – we can provide different sized brushes to help maintain oral hygiene
  • Fixed – this brace is not removable

For a more discreet and almost ‘invisible’ orthodontic solution without braces take a look at Invisalign.

What are Damon Braces?

Damon Braces Image

Damon braces are fixed braces that don't use elastic or metal ties. Instead they use a combination of memory wires and self-litigating brackets that have a slide mechanism allowing the teeth to move into their new positions more comfortably and more quickly. The brackets are designed to be easy to clean and discreet as they are smaller and flatter than normal and are less obtrusive.

What Are the Orthodontic Problems That Can Be Treated with Damon Braces?

Damon braces are suitable for treating quite a few orthodontic problems including overcrowding, gaps in between teeth, and teeth that are rotated out of position. In addition it can be used to treat overbites where the upper teeth are too far forward in relation to the lower teeth, underbites where the lower teeth bite in front of the upper teeth, and open bites where the front teeth do not meet even when you are biting on your back teeth. The system can also be used to treat crossbites where some of the upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth.

What Is the Step-By-Step Process for Having Damon Braces?

The step-by-step process for having Damon braces is as follows:

  1. The first step is to have a consultation at Harley Street Orthodontic Centre where we can assess if Damon Braces are the right system for you.
  2. Next, your dentist will need to take x-rays and impressions of your teeth which will be used to make your orthodontic appliance.
  3. The braces can be fitted during your next appointment, and each bracket is glued onto your teeth before the wires are attached to the brackets completing the fitting process.
  4. You'll need to visit your dentist at regular intervals so they can monitor your progress and make small adjustments to your braces as necessary. You probably only need to visit them once every 10 weeks or so.
  5. Once your teeth have moved into the correct position then your braces can be removed, you will need to wear a retainer to ensure that they remain straight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Damon Braces Hurt?

It's perfectly normal to experience a little bit of tenderness immediately after the braces have been fitted as they will begin to apply pressure on your teeth. Additionally the brackets may sometimes cause small ulcers on the inside of the cheeks, but most people will experience very little discomfort during the whole treatment.

How Long Will This Treatment Take?

Treatment is generally quicker than with conventional braces, but the exact time frame will vary according to your orthodontic problems. Some people will begin to see results within as little as 10 weeks.

What About Eating, Drinking and Cleaning My Teeth?

Fixed braces do require a little more care, and you will need to avoid very sticky foods and hard crunchy foods that could damage the brackets. Your dentist will show you how to clean around the brackets and can advise you on the best tools to use. This may include interdental brushes and soft picks although some people will prefer to use a water flosser.
